If the shoe fits?

So, let’s say you decide to stop wearing clothing from major brands that make use of sweatshop labor. Instead, you might shop at a thrift store and in turn buy the same brand name clothing; just not at the price you would be paying at the store. So a $120 pair of Nike sneakers might cost you $5. Obviously, Nike is not making the same profit. However, the moment you wear your Nike sneakers outside no one can tell the difference. Also, you are still showing an endorsement of the product. You are, in effect, a walking advertisement for the company you detest. I have friends who only shop at thrift stores for political reasons but end up wearing used brand name clothing, yet they still feel like a total rebel. In my opinion, if you want to feel like a total rebel and stick it to the man, you need to stop wearing brand name clothing altogether.

What do I wear? Oh, I wear what I want most of the time. I try not to be preachy about consumer decisions. I just don't like such obvious contradictions.

American Apparel models are depressed (and creepy)

I understand models aren’t allowed to smile or reflect emotion but this is depression to the extreme:

Actually, it might just be creepy.

When I was younger (I’m thinking teenage years here) I went through a phase of subscribing to countless fashion magazines and store catalogs that I would get incredibly excited over. Oh, like every girl, I wanted to be pretty and have the right clothes. American Apparel wasn’t around in those days but if it had been I believe it would have utterly confused me. You see I became familiar with gorgeous, classically beautiful models. To this day, this is the kind of image I have in my mind. In the case of American Apparel their models tend to frighten me. Also, in many cases I have to stop and wonder, "What is she wearing? A plastic bag with zebra striped shorts? Is that what kids are wearing these days?”

Yellow options

Outside the sun is shining and for whatever reason I find myself at my laptop pondering what I will wear to my brother's May wedding. Because you know, the matter is of dire importance. I'm sure amidst the hundreds of guests someone will be looking over and thinking, "She wore that?"

Going with the yellow theme, I'm smitten with this dress from Anthropologie:

With these shoes (also from Anthropologie):

I like it because the outfit doesn't scream yellow but still manages to include the color. Lately I've also been reading, Style Me Pretty - The Ultimate Wedding Blog, for ideas. The blog is beautiful and satisfies my girly girl needs.
