At the apartment complex in which I live the parking lots outside are currently under construction as they re-seal the asphalt. I’m not exactly sure what this process involves but do know everything smells of tar, which is not a scent I enjoy. Well, last night I was walking in my bright green Crocs to my car when I decided to take a shortcut. I walked in the construction zone, thinking, the tar must be dry by now. I had taken a similar shortcut earlier and had not encountered any troubles. I was walking smoothly until I placed my foot in a tricky spot and slide across wet tar before falling, my body quickly covered in black goo. It was not a pleasant way to fall and washing off tar isn’t an easy task for the middle of the night. I’m sure there are lessons here to be learned but instead I’m convinced I am accident-prone. So be it.

Feeling domestic
I bought this dress today in black. I like it quite a bit. There are six different ways in which I can tie it. I like having options. After I bought the dress I commented to Lisa: "Today I bought a dress, yesterday I baked a cake... what will be next?" She didn't have an answer. Maybe ironing?

I’ve spent a good deal of today researching possible apartments to rent in the area. It’s a lot more work than I expected and slightly frustrating. What I want in an apartment is going to be difficult to find. I need an affordable (meaning: cheap) apartment with plenty of windows and my own private room. I don’t want to live in a place that makes one wallow in the darkness writing poems of despair. I’ve seen some scary college apartments and I don’t want my place to resemble the scary in any way. I realize I may be sounding spoiled and some would point out, “You are a college student, what do you expect?” However, I’ve been lucky in where I’ve lived during my time in college thus far and it never hurts to have some basic standards of living.

I returned from Las Vegas a few days ago. I haven’t uploaded photos from the trip or found time to sit at the laptop. If I could describe Las Vegas in one word it would be: artificial. (But fun, of course).
At the moment I’m sitting at Espresso Royale Café suffering through the barista’s music selection. My sandwich arrived cold in the middle and my drink is sub par. This is not the coffee shop experience that makes leaving the apartment worthwhile.
