Losing time
I spent the day with my sisters celebrating the lovely Sara’s birthday. The evening ended in near-adventure. We left a particular coffee shop at their closing and seconds later Lisa realized she had left her purse in the building. Immediately, we returned to the coffee shop. Except the building was now locked up with lights off and no one in sight. We hadn’t been gone longer than five minutes.
I pounded on the front door with all my strength hoping if someone was in the building they would hear the sound and respond to it. Lisa and Theresa disappeared behind the building as Sara and I stood discussing possibilities. It was at that moment I realized how handy lock picking skills would be.
Theresa and Lisa were gone for quite some time… I began to wonder if they had found a back door and were in the process of breaking into the building. Knowing my sisters, this behavior would not have been surprising.
Finally, they returned with news. Apparently they had found an employee in the back parking lot and had talked with him. No, he hadn’t noticed a purse at closing time. No, he didn’t have any way of getting back into the building. According to him only two people in the world have keys to the building and he was not one of the two. Lisa couldn’t help but notice certain illegal substances in his care but he seemed harmless and they were able to get the owner’s number from him.
If you are reading this and wondering why the need for the rush… Lisa and I had plans on leaving on a road trip home tonight. Except we can’t leave without her purse and so the trip has been delayed. I just hope we will be able to recover her purse smoothly and will avoid any new obstacles.
